Dr. Christoph Jansen is part of a monumental undertaking. His mission is to help make the steel producer Thyssenkrupp climate neutral. As Head of Hydrogen and Green Energy, Strategy and Projects, he is driving the company’s transition toward hydrogen based steel production. For this long established industry giant, the shift is about far more than new technology. It is about changing mindsets. “At our Duisburg site alone, we emit twenty million tons of CO2 every year. We have to rethink everything,” he says.

Like Thyssenkrupp, many companies in the steel and chemical sectors aim to produce without emissions in the future. To achieve this, they plan to use green electricity from renewable sources or hydrogen produced from green electricity. This means industry will need far more power than before. We are therefore working with these companies to plan higher capacity grid connections. On top of that, we want to help convert green electricity into green hydrogen. All to ensure that the energy transition succeeds.
